The Marin Municipal Water District is holding a community workshop on the district’s water rates and finances. MMWD staff and board members are very interested to hear from ratepayers about their priorities for cost-saving measures, rates and revenues, and long-term planning. The workshop will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about how the district manages its finances and invests in our water infrastructure.
The difficult economic conditions in the last two years have hit MMWD in many of the same ways as at other local governments. The district has made significant cuts in its budget and raised rates to keep pace with rising costs, but more needs to be done to ensure the long-term sustainability of our water infrastructure and watersheds. District staff will present information on the recent efforts to manage costs, community involvement in long-term rate planning, and options for near-term revenues and cost savings, including a possible rate increase for 2011.
