To increase the available water supply in a dry year, a new barge and pump have been installed at Phoenix Lake. The new pump replaces an older, smaller pump that was no longer operational and had been removed several years ago. The new pump will allow water to be sent from Phoenix Lake to Bon Tempe Lake and then to Bon Tempe Treatment Plant.
Phoenix Lake is used as a reserve supply only in unusually dry years because of the cost of pumping the water approximately 600 feet uphill to Bon Tempe Lake. Phoenix Lake accounts for 0.5 percent of the district’s total reservoir capacity of 79,566 acre feet. (One acre foot is equivalent to 325,851 gallons.)
