Overwatering is one of the biggest water wasters in your garden—in fact, most gardeners use 20-50% more water than is necessary. Need help figuring out how much water your garden needs? Use our weekly watering schedule as a guide. We update it every Friday based on actual weather conditions, so it’s always current.
With the heat wave that arrived this weekend, watch for wilting in your garden. But remember that even if the soil is wet, plants may be transpiring—or losing water to the air—faster than they can draw it up from the soil. Don’t try to water or wet the foliage during the heat of the day as the water can cause further damage to the foliage. The plants will recover when the temperatures cool down in the evening. Adding a temporary shade for these wilting plants can help prevent the leaves from burning.
The month of July is Smart Irrigation Month. MMWD will be kicking off a new rebate program to coincide with this event and help make your garden water smart. Stay tuned!
