Reservoir levels are still well above average even as water use increases due to outdoor irrigation needs. This year’s rainfall year, which officially ends on June 30, was slightly below average.
Here are the current water statistics:
Reservoir Levels: As of June 24, reservoir levels are 93 percent of capacity, or 74,273 acre-feet.* The average for this date is 84 percent (67,033 acre-feet). Total capacity is 79,566 acre-feet.
Rainfall: Rainfall from July 1, 2011, to June 24, 2012, totals 40.51 inches. Average for the same period is 52.58 inches.
Water Use: Water use for the last seven days averaged 31.8 million gallons per day, only slightly higher than last year’s average of 29.8 million gallons per day. On a per capita basis, this year’s figure is 171.9 gallons and last year’s is 161.0 gallons (for the last seven days).
Creek Releases: During the month of May 2012 MMWD released 210 million gallons, or a total of 644 acre-feet, into Lagunitas and Walker creeks in west Marin. We release water throughout the year to maintain adequate flows for the fishery per our agreement with the State of California.
