Cate Samaniego and Hannah Jagoda are the top prize winners in the Marin Municipal Water District’s Mt. Tamalpais Watershed Centennial Coloring Contest, held in conjunction with FastForward magazine to celebrate MMWD’s 100-year anniversary this year.
Cate, who just completed the fifth grade at Montessori de Terra Linda, won first place in the K-5 individual category. Her schoolmate Hannah, who just graduated from the sixth grade, took the top prize for 6-12 individuals.
Manor School and Montessori de Terra Linda shared top honors for class entries.
Alisa Zhoa of Glenwood Elementary School and Brittany Rolstad of Marin Catholic High School were the second place winners in the individual categories. Nefi De Moraes of Sun Valley Elementary School and Nattasia Ferrin of Mill Valley Middle School took home the third-place prizes. See below for a complete list of winners. The prizewinning artwork can be viewed on our Facebook page.
Choosing the winners was a challenge: About 300 students representing 20 different schools entered the contest, which the district sponsored as part of our centennial anniversary celebrations. April 25, 2012, marked 100 years since MMWD received its charter as the first municipal water district in California.
The young artists used crayons, markers, colored pencils, paints, glue, glitter, tissue paper and other materials to color an outline of Mt. Tamalpais and Bon Tempe Reservoir. The contest appeared in the April issue of FastForward, a local publication written by and for kids and distributed to schools throughout Marin. Kids also had an opportunity to enter at a Centennial Open House hosted by MMWD on May 5.
Each of the first-place individual winners took home an award certificate, a check for $100, and a cool MMWD centennial slap bracelet. The second and third place winners received $50 and $25, respectively. The class winners received $100 for their classes.
Thank you to all the students who entered and congratulations to all the winners!
